The Goenka family enjoys the reputation of successfully running the
metallurgy industry and trade in Bihar for the last 55 years. The
steel industry business was initially started in the 1950’s by two
brothers namely, Late Jhabarmal Goenka and Mussadilal Goenka, who
have been accredited with pioneering the steel industry in the State
of Bihar. They were responsible for setting up M/s Mahabir
Industries and M/s Mahabir Steel Re-rolling Mills in partnership
with Late Durga Prasad Kamalia and Late Gobind Prasad Sultania.
Although in 1991 the joint partnership in M/s Mahabir Steel
Re-rolling Mills mutually ended, by the year 1993 they had expanded
into 8 industries with 3 national level trading firms.
M/s J.M.G. Steel Private Limited (JMGSPL), named after Jhabarmal &
Mussadilal Goenka and established in 1995, is a prominent and
leading long steel manufacturer in the State of Bihar. JMGSPL
planned a steel rolling mill in the year 1993 to cater to the
increasing demand for steel bars, and since their sister concerns
had saturated to full production capacity. The unit was situated in
Fatuha Industrial Estate, Patna with annual installed capacity of
20,000MT. It commenced production in 1995 with steel bars, rods,
flats and other items for retail sale in the State of Bihar.
The Management of JMGSPL is spearheaded by Shri Gopi Chand Goenka,
real son of Late Jhabarmal Goenka and adopted son of Late Mussadilal
Goenka, who has over 40 years of industry experience and is credited
with successfully establishing steel rolling mills, wire drawing
unit, steel foundry, aluminum utensils, and steel trading arms. The
Management is well equipped in the steel industry, technically and
marketing wise, and JMGSPL has earned a respectable reputation for
its quality conscious and market friendly approach.
The Management of JMGSPL recently decided to implement backward
integration by adding an Induction Furnace for producing MS Ingots
which is the raw material for steel bars, in order to reduce
dependence on suppliers and for better synergy and in the long steel
sector.
Despite an ongoing recession in the steel industry, JMGSPL has
bravely faced the situation and ensured a positive bottom line,
continued its stride for manufacturing quality products and
increased market penetration. The Company has recently struck a
strategic partnership with ATLAS Group of Companies, namely ATLAS
TMT Bars Private Limited, associating itself and
leveraging on an internationally renowned brand name for better and
sustained growth in the long steel industry in Bihar. |
